Elvis on Leno Show 11/14/03

I didn't know about this appearance until just now, but I have seen the listing in a couple of places.

Show begins at 11:35 EST (check your local listings), but he'll likely perform at 12:25 am or so.

I take some of these polls so seriously at times, and some choices are simply too hard to make, as Sophie discovered. How can one possibly choose between Revolver and Abbey Road ? Between King of America and Get Happy!! (This is purely rhetorical: I'm not expecting to launch a new discussion on thes...

the film was sappy but not all that bad

Finally? Isn't The Family Man that atrocious movie with Nicolas Cage and Mrs. David Duchovny? That's the one. I didn't buy the movie, so its atrociousness (or lack of same) isn't the issue. EC's "You Stole My Bell" is far from atrocious, and it's the reason I finally acquired the soundtra...

I waited a long time to post in this thread, because for me it is absolutely impossible to choose. I do know my choice would not be Let It Be . Some days I'd say Revolver is the best with no hesitation, but on other days it would have to be Sgt. Pepper or Abbey Road . When asked the Desert Island qu...

There doesn't seem to be a U.S. release yet, so I bit the bullet and ordered the Japanese edition, which has two bonus tracks. I hope it arrives soon. Cale is one of my long-time favourites, and the 5 Tracks EP that came out a few months ago was excellent. This was Uncut's Album of the Month, by the...

The Waifs, Sink or Swim . I saw these Aussies open for Dylan and liked them. Good songs, pretty well played and sung, and Vicki Simpson plays a great harmonica. The album's pretty fair, and I think I'll probably pick up their newest one if I find it at an attractive price. I also bought the Paul Wel...

next April?

I haven't bought tickets yet, but King Crimson next month is quite likely.

The only other definite (already booked) is David Byrne with Caetano Veloso at Carnegie Hall in April.

Questions

Has anyone heard the Undertones' reunion album (sans Feargal) Get What You Need? What did you think?

And the same questions regarding Graham Parker's Blue Highway. . . .

I thought "Concert for George" was well worth seeing. Jeff Lynne's rendition of "The Inner Light" was superb, with Ravi Shankar's daughter playing the sitar. Clapton's version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was also good; in fact, Clapton was in good form throughout....

I generally drink ice water, coffee or juice (Tropicana Pure Tropics orange-strawberry-banana is the favourite at the moment), but when I do go for carbonated, non-alcoholic beverages it's generally:

1. Dr. Brown's black cherry
2. Seagram's ginger ale
3. Sprite
4. whatever happened to Grapette?

Joe Henry alert

Be sure to post your reactions to Fuse, which was the first Joe Henry album I bought. I think this may require its own thread, but tonight (10/10) he's on the Leno show.

I was actually slightly disturbed that he lost the job just over that one comment. I hate to see anyone fall under the thrall of addictive drugs, but since so many do, better this evil blowhard than someone who isn't an opinion-maker loudly espousing standards of personal conduct he can't live up to himself.
