What strikes me, when I reed the English reviews, is that they seem to talk more about the person 'Costello' than about his music. They want to classify Costello but they can't; the English press really seems to have a problem with that. Do they still bother to listen to his music? I wonder. A big d...

Sorry for being so late with my review, but I had a real busy week. By now, I’ve seen Elvis at least 12/13 times, and this show certainly was one of his bests. Despite a virus (and some problems with his voice) he looked very much in shape and was very energetic. To Cope: it must have been someone e...

Hello,

I was there. Don't have the time now to give you a full report. It's was a great show, but Elvis struggled with a virus, so his voice sometimes let him down.

It's incredible that he did almost 30 songs with a painfull troath. Admirable. Full report later.

'there's no reason to do this song here'...

Today - 17/12 - is exactly 27 year's (!!!!) ago that Elvis made his famous SNL appearance. Paul Inglis writes about this: It was a performance so controversial and inflammatory that he was subsequently banned from appearing on Saturday Night Live again until 1989. Even the circumstances leading to E...

I'm listening to it at this very moment. Great stuff in true BBC tradition. The show will be on air every day this week. When you have real player installed, you can listen to it via the web. Every true fan should.
Thanks for the tip.

There were a few (very possitive) reviews in the national press. This is the review from 'De Morgen', monday 2004/07/12. Met Elvis Costello haalde Cactus een van de grootste songwriters van deze tijd onder zeil: het hedendaagse equivalent van een Cole Porter, zeg maar. Het zal dan ook niet verbazen ...

Great show; Elvis is great shape. The song before 'God's Comic' was 'Nothing clings like Evy'.

I saw a great coverage of the show on the TV (ned. 3) last night. We saw Elvis perform 3 songs live (almost ideal eyes, speak darkly my angel - unknown to me- and episode of blonde), we saw him during a rehearsal with the metropole orchestra (almost ideal eyes) an there was also an interview. Tonigh...

Costello in Belgium

Hello all, Just got back from the Brussels concert. Incredible evening. Costello was in great shape, the theatre was sold out, all of them real Costello fans. The crowd received the North songs very well and Costello told us ‘how much this means to him’. He performed the whole North album (in 4 part...

In the interviews Elvis is giving, he talks about an English expression 'I'm going south' wich means something like 'not doing so well'. In that sense, 'North' has a positive conotation.

Or has it something to do with CanaKrall... ?

This chart shows the best selling albums for one week in the two main record shops of Amsterdam: Concerto and Get Records. North is also doing quite well in Belgium, as mentioned. You can give it a vote at http://www.humo.be (go to 'Rock etc' - then to 'humo top 20'). You'll see a list of albums and...

Humo - review of North

If it’s all right for you all, I occasionally will bring some ‘Elvis-news’ from our little country, Belgium. Humo, one of the most important magazines, gave ‘North’ the following review. I post it because it is one of the best I’ve read till now. The journalist obviously took the trouble to listen ...
