Bob Mould used to live next door to my brother's girlfriend when he lived in Austin. I never managed to be visiting when he was in town, but he came over to her house for dinner a couple of times.

See you in a few days

I'm going to be out of town for a few days. The man I was named for, who was my father's best friend, and whom we all called Uncle, died. He was closer to our family than many of our real relatives. It was a long time coming, but it is still a huge blow.

I'll talk to you all when I get back.

Didn't Jesus apparently once say (maybe not exactly word for word): 1. "Think it not robbery to be equal with God" 2. "These things that I've done and greater things you can do too" 3. "As you think, so shall you be" 1. Not exactly. Paul said in Phillipians, "Chri...

"You have heard it said, 'An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you if a man strike you on your left cheeck, turn and offer him your left. If a man force you to bear his burden for a mile, offer to bear it for a second mile. If a man demands your coat, offer him also your shirt....

Oily, Not to run this into the ground too much further, but you may recall there were other multiple posters with less-than-humorous intentions. My apology came in the middle of the snake, bebe, and 15 or so other names associated with those people terrorizing the board. I didn't want anyone to thin...

Rope, it takes one to know one. Sweet Pear, I feel overwhelmed about the same things. As the the Why God question, well, that's the big one for all time, isn't it? I suspect (never sure about these things, for obvious reasons) that God lets us exercize our free will without interference most ...

I only really posted under the names Descartes and Himself with any regularity. The others were employed in the reveal, and that's about it. I don't remember weeping all over the screen, but I do remember suddenly realizing that what I intended for a joke had offended some people that I didn't want ...

6. They Might Be Giants - Mink Car
9. Prince - Take Me With U

How appropriate that this contest be ended with those numbers.

(Cope Fan's not back yet, so someone had to say it).

me.

Honest. So, Rope you were right about me being Descartes. And I'm sure someone guessed I was Himself at some point or another.
Sorry if I pissed anyone off, especially Mug.

Miss B.A., I'll need a retraction.

Jackson Monk Doofster, You flatter me, and I thank you for your kind words. But I want to know the first time I step out of line with your views. I'll be 35 in 2008, which is the minimum age requirement. Maybe my campaign slogan could be "Barely Legal." That way, I'd get the dirty old man ...

Well Iraq was part of the former Ottoman Empire (along with pretty much all of the rest of the Middle East. France, the US, and the UK sliced it into protectorates, according to what rationale, I don't know (other than to break up an enemy empire). It was in this whole mess that virtually every pres...

Sweet Pear, I will address the part addressed to me. First, I wasn't trying to attack you or really anything you said. I was just chiming in. Second, I don't quibble that Sadam is evil. That can't be our justification for going to war with countries, or else we would be at war all the time. Most cou...

It makes me sad. Not shocked and dismayed, just sad. A line here and there could even be considered an homage. But all over the album is just weird. Or if he had just said in the liner notes, "I read this great book, and there are lines on this record lifted from it. You should read the book.&q...

Rope, I don't think I'd go so far as to suggest that anyone in this administration let 9-11 happen to further their political goals. I'm not saying it's not possible, just that I see it as too big of a stretch. But the real reason I feel compelled to respond is that the people you heard on the radio...

I would like to see him now. When I saw him it was part of a festival show, and those are always awkward (though Cake and Beck were at the same show, and both killed). I don't hate the Look-Ma stuff. I listened to Play non-stop for a few weeks when it came out, and I don't think there's a bad tune o...

Well, Rope, I just agree with you about the media coverage. I don't know how much of a discussion there is to have. What ought to be a PR nightmare for the Bushies has been soft-pedaled, even by CNN. I used to watch the early Letterman show when I was a kid (during summers and vacation days). I've b...

I must respectfully disagree with you there, Bob. About Conan, that is. Letting Robert Smigel loose makes for great comedy. But it doesn't make you a great host. Conan's monologue has never been more than adequate. Rarely does he seem truly comfortable in that regard. And in interviews, he's too sel...

I started paying attention to Moby with Animal Rights. I don't care much for his earlier work, and while it's dancible, the newer stuff doesn't strike me as that ingenious (look, Ma, I can put a breakbeat behind old gospel and blues records). I think Animal Rights is bold and interesting. I haven't ...
