Re: Spinning Songbook North American Tour, Spring 2012
Looks like I might be able to hit Durham. There's a good chance I'll be at Merlefest this year, which is only two hours drive away, and if I forgo the last day of the festival, I could probably make it over.

Are you using the Werner Herzog translating software?the_platypus wrote:It does seem to have the ability to whittle a lyric down to its core message.
I tried it with some non-EC songs yesterday.

Re: nick lowe on bbc radio 5 now
It's a nice episode. Maron style allows him to admit to not doing any research and run through some familiar territory in a way that doesn't piss off his guests. The EC stuff is early days, but it's a great little chat and closes with Lowe doing some stellar renditions of The Beast In Me and Sensiti...

Brilliant Mistake with the Sugarcanes. That Stuart Duncan fiddle line and Jim's harmonies in the chorus... It's like he wrote the song for that band and it just took a while to get to them. Black and White World with the Roots. PLU when he hosted Letterman. Best advertisement for the Imposters you ...

Costello is one of those figures who seems much more easy to imitate than he is. Same with Sean Connery.

I haven't heard Adele's first record or Duffy's second. But the former's second and the latter's first are cracking good listens.

Re: Thinking of Christopher Hitchens
To my writing classes I used to open by saying that anybody who could talk could also write. Having cheered them up with this easy-to-grasp ladder, I then replaced it with a huge and loathsome snake: "How many people in this class, would you say, can talk? I mean really talk?" That had its...

That's ridiculous accusation. And for christ's sake, it's pretty simple:
If you think the album is too expensive, do not purchase it.

It keeps getting delayed - they've yet to settle on a version of the screenplay that Roger Daltrey is comfortable with. Myers would be too old for the part now though.docinwestchester wrote:Sounds like fun. And lucrative if it's a hit.
BTW, what ever happened to the Keith Moon biopic that Myers was supposed to star in?

I don't know why you think Krall embarrasses herself. I thought it was an excellent choice for her and a great rendition - tender and smokey.

And therefore, if MP3s have no intrinsic value, shouldn't they be free anyway? Would you download if the artist offered mp3s legally for free? 1. MP3s have no intrinsic value. The content of them does. It's the same as CDs. CDs are worth a cent or two each. You're not paying for the CD - you're pay...

So selling digital verssions of your album is in fact ripping off the buyer, because he/she has no legal way of selling his purchase second hand? No. They're buying the right to own it, not sell it on. I don't think that's a consideration that's at the front of many purchaser's minds. It's an album...
