Re: 'Hell has frozen over' - Elvis plays Dublin, July 1 '10

The reviews for Sugarcanes show are getting very predictable. 1. Summation of career, mention of 'shifting styles', possible mention of KOA. 2. List of hits performed, mention of changed tempo 3. Single out a couple of band members for praise, usually Jerry or Jim. 4. Positive if slightly skeptical ...

Came across an online article about the website, "I Write Like"... http://iwl.me/ Type in any sample of writing--prose, journal entry, poetry--whatever--and click a button. The site will then "analyze" the text and tell you which famous author's style it most closely mimics. Nat...

Cochran really was one of the greats. I think EC and Lucinda could do a great version of this HC number:

From Mike Compton: 'Back tracking today towards Brussels and a last minute gig. Rumor is Jeff Beck and John Fogarty will be on the bill. Italy has fallen by the wayside. Good show last night. Re: Elvis's last great album

I'm against self-harmonising, no matter who's doing it. Because it's impossible - someone can't actually sing two vocal lines at the same time. So it pulls me out of the song on a subconscious level. My brain realises it's not possible for it to be happening live and goes 'this is a trick'. Besides,...

Re: Jimmie standing in the rain - guess at lyric

I think 'Five Small Words' and 'Condemned Man' would both be promising titles, as would 'The Race Is On' (but I doubt they actually cut that one).

I emailed Dr. Faragher asking if there was any chance of a tour down under. His response:

You book it we'll do it!

I adore the songs and performances on their record. The production makes it close to unlistenable. Phil Spector should have been locked up for what he did to this and LET IT BE. Nutter.

Re: Do you have a fave Beatles album?

Used to be ABBEY ROAD, but these days it's REVOLVER. It follows the same formula they'd reuse for SGT PEPPER, but it has a harder mod-rock edge.

I thought the crispness and dynamic range of these remasters was stunning - the horns on Magical Mystery Tour, the bass on Paperback Writer, etc. just pop out of the speakers. The Abbey Road team did a *NPI* masterful job.

Re: Elvis's last great album

I don't think he's had one since King of America. In my mind, that was the last time he put out a truly indispensable, balls-to-the-wall masterpiece . (And his other works of greatness are: Imperial Bedroom, Trust, This Year's Model and Armed Forces). More and more I think I just see Costello as a ...
