Re: Wake up you footy fans!!!

Sad scenes at Upton Park. Odious supporters on both sides.

One prick expressing disgust that his children had been terrified. What sort of idiot takes his children to that match? :x

Played One World to death on holiday. I think Small Hours has become one of my all time favourite songs. Just beautiful.

Re: The Open/Tom Watson

Yes, it was disappointing that TW just ran out of steam at the last. However, although he was the one member of the leaders who I didn't want to win, I was very impressed with Stewart Cink. Clearly a family man and asolid well-grounded character, he blew away my totally unfair misconceptions about h...

Got to agree about The Boatman's Call. A genuinely superb album that just has to be listened to in its entirety.

With you on that one Christopher. Turnberry is absolutely gorgeous. I love my golf and have just got back from a fantastic weekend playing with friends at Celtic Manor in Wales (venue for next year's Ryder Cup).

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Thank you for sharing- must confess I only knew the name Trashcan Sinatras- never reallly heard the music- will put them on a Pandora station and give them a spin- the clip you shared is lovely and haunting and he does have a beautiful voice in that song-are they British? The sound reminds me of Sh...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Is that the "Action Packed: Best of the Capital Years" cd? Would concur with "Rumor and Sigh" although Mitchell Froom's over production has always put me on edge-personal favoritie for me is "Hand of Kindness" complete with Richard busking on the Embankment- a close se...

That pic is from about 2000 and was pretty radical, (as my 10 year old has taken to saying).

I am very excited by this news. Paddy is a blessed saint in my book and very much missed. It would be great of he could be persuaded to release some new recordings as well as putting out previously unreleased material.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Congratulations for yesterday my friend...lots of tequila I hope? I skip lots of songs on WIWC....prob more so than most of his recent output. The only ones I really play are: 45 Soul for Hire Daddy Can I Turn This. My Little Blue Window Episode of Blonde Radio Silence Alibi is ok, but like lots of ...

Re: Best EC Album of the Past 10 years

My rant was inspired by the notion that it could be thought odd that a long-time fan of EC's couldn't find a great EC album during the last 10 years. Second time I've been misquoted/misinterpreted. I didn't find it odd at all. I thought that it was indicative of the fact that his output over the pa...

Re: "The Worst of Elvis Costello"

ATUB: stand (like the song, can't stand the singing), atoms, angel Among much heresy, the latter is serious heresy! I'm currently in an ATUB phase, and Distorted Angel is, I think, an entirely fabulous song. Original, clever, and very lovely. Agree entirely. Distorted Angel is an EC classic. Beauti...

Re: Best EC Album of the Past 10 years

I wrote a long response to Alex expressing my agreement with all he had to say. Unfortunately I had one of those horror moments when the text disappeared in front of my very eyes as I tried to post. This may be a blessing and I will now summarise in a very simple way: Elvis long ago lost the plot wi...

Re: "The Worst of Elvis Costello"

You'll never be a man would be in my top 5 EC songs ever. Black Sails top 20. I agree with you that Chewing Gum is not much cop...not awful..just boring. Bu then again, I think Spike is the one EC album that has consistently dropped down my favourites list, year on year. I rarely play it anymore. Th...

Re: Best EC Album of the Past 10 years

When prest, would have to say Momofuko- with The Delivery Man or North a close second. I would give an honorable mention to For the Stars-I enjoy listening to the album and take it for the lark I think it was intended to be. I least enjoy Secret, Profane and Sugarcane- 6 or 8 white, middle-aged men...

Re: "The Worst of Elvis Costello"

Off the top of my head I've never liked Invasion Hit Parade, Coal Train Robberies, Sweet Pear, White Knuckles,LetMe Tell You About Her. Then there's the overrated songs like When I Was Cruel 2 and I Want You (yes, I said I Want You). But this is the fun thing about taste because I love Lovers' Walk...

Re: Best EC Album of the Past 10 years

Not my favourite either.

I love Bedlam, Either side,Scarlet Tide... and Country Darkness. The rest are ok with the exception of the title track, which I really dislike.

Loving just 4 songs on an EC album puts it pretty low on the scale for me. :(

I love all of North.
