Got a great Coltrane bargain the other week. The Atlantic Heavyweight Champion boxset was repressed on vinyl in 2000 and tends to go for about £100. Got one new for £39.99! Very pleased. The Richard Hawley album arrived on vinyl today. Sounds great. And finally, was very pleased with a bargain fro...

BCB is indeed a pretty diverse crowd, and as such , can be rather frustrating , but if you can ignore the odd contrary, crazy or ill mannered thread - like the one you linked to - then you will find a wealth of knowledge in a lot of the posters there - and there is definitely no shortage of Bowie f...

They're talking bollocks. For a start they got the name of the album wrong, it's 'Country Mouse, City House' and secondly it's a lovely record, that to me sits neatly alongside '1972' whilst taking the calmer elements of 'Subtitulo' and actually doing something with them. That more relaxed, er, Span...

Two points to follow up there. My UK-bought copy of 'A Case For Song' is Regions 2,3,4 and 5 compatible, and presumably is the intended release for all of those regions, rather than doing one for each. As for the 5.1 being the preferable audio for this, I'd have to disagree. The grunt of the relativ...

Is it a full blown sale, or just a little section?

Been following this story online since the 'stock take' closure, last Friday. Didn't look good at the time, and re-opening as cash only on Saturday 23rd was the moment where it became crystal clear. Really sad news. Didn't get back to the Nottingham shop before it closed - was going to go this weeke...

"Going To A Town" by Rufus Wainwright. Is the rest of the album this good? Yes! Although don't expect to love it on the first couple of plays. If I'm honest, the first couple of plays left me cold, if not a little displeased with it. I didn't feel it lived up to his high standards, but th...

I use a fairly basic carbon fibre brush. It cost £5 from Amazon. Seems to do the trick.

You seem to be doing lots of duplicate buying in vinyl. Aficionado! I'm jealous. I try not to, but I get suckered in for one reason or another. With The Good, The Bad & The Queen, I wanted the CD+DVD edition, but also the gatefold vinyl, as I knew it was a fantastic record. (I've also got the v...

Dark and brooding stuff. I love it! http://g-ec2.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/d6/c7/62d3828fd7a0a3baba150110.L.jpg Still my favourite of the year thus far. An amazingly claustrophobic and yet atmospheric record. Some superb songwriting and some equally excellent playing. Vinyl sounds better th...

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/61N-S674K8L._AA240_.jpg Wonderful record. Can't say it's a return to form because I really enjoyed 'Lifeblood' too. However, 'Know Your Enemy' was an awful mess. This is power pop, with GnR chords and huge chorus a la 'Everything Must Go' and 'Generation Terror...

I'm not sure much is the wrong side of modern Santana. I guess that's the problem with using the same producer and allowing them creative input.

Yup, still dead. The more the label/estate continue to milk his legacy to the point of quite disagreeably obvious mony-grabbing desperation, the less I like him. Now, I know this shouldn't reflect on his music but I went through a period of loving his stuff. I played 'Grace' for an age, then I picke...

Oh, and on the subject of the Wilco album, it's bloody annoying that they've done an independent stores only, exclusive disc for the US only. While it's a splendid gesture, and I'm only annoyed because I'm in the UK, it's still one of those things that would've been just as well received over here. ...

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/51609xbg72L._AA240_.jpg Wilco's Sky Blue Sky , which just came out yesterday. Definitely a lower key affair than their previous two albums. It's rootsy without being overtly countryish, though there's elements of all sorts of classic influences. My favourite tr...

The thing with 'Stage' is that it's mixed around the soundscape, much like 'Young Americans', so it's going on all over the place, whereas Visconti went for a more conventional 'band at the front - crowd at the back' approach for 'David Live'. It's alright, and I have to confess to playing to the st...

I have a 5.1 setup. 'Stage' also sounds sublime in 5.1, although in the case of 'David Live', Visconti proved that you can't polish a turd. I would also absolutely love a version of STS done in the same format. My all time favourite Bowie album, that one. The title track sounds pretty special in 5.1...

Bit of 5.1 Bowie for me. CD-Wow dropped the price to 8.99 and with a 50p off voucher arriving that day it was too much of a coincidence to ignore. Sounds great.

http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000KB6DAA.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_V42611311_.jpg Sounds fantastic. I liked their first one. How does this compare? It's kind of a cross between 'Sunshine Hit Me' and 'Free The Bees'. Slightly more ska flavour at times and with some cracking harmonies. Recommended.
