Re: Elvis and The Sugarcanes, Redbank, NJ, 9 Jun 2009

Must be a tough balance fro Elvis to try and please the RAWK fans and the true fans. I for one could do without hearing PLU, Pump It Up, or any of the old classics. Give me the new stuff or rework the old stuff and make it new. Good for Elvis. What a great setlist!

Re: EC to release Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

I like all of the tracks really well, especially Crooke Line, Sulphur to Sugarcane, Changing Partners, All Time Doll, and I Felt the Chill. How Deep is the Red is the only one that hurts my ears to listen to. Definitely not as good as KOA, but its a nice companion piece to Delivery Man, and River in...

Re: Elvis on Letterman, June 4 '09

I'm sure it will be up on youtube sometime tomorrow, John. I will post up the link if it appears there. Good performance of Sulphur to Sugarcane. I guess thats the real band, don't really know those guys. I liked the banter before the song, mostly about how his Johnny Cash association thru Nick Lowe...

Re: REVIEWS: Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

I've gone to the website where it is still streaming and given the whole album a listen-through a few times. Gotty a say, this one is a gem. Come June 2nd, I will go buy the CD, wherever its selling -- I guess that might be Starbucks. I was browsing for books a few days ago at a Borders and then wan...

Re: Elvis Costello On Magnetmagazine.com

I gotta agree with Neil's assessment of Imperial Bedroom from ages ago. I have much the same opinion. IB is one that I reach for not nearly as much these days. It hasn't aged well, except for the stand out tracks he mentions. Some of it almost starts to sound like a James Bond soundtrack (Roger Moor...

Re: EC to release Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

I don't know, but the 'stache has got to go. Of all the strange Elvis fashion statements, what is the worst? 1. the beard (Mighty Like a Rose) - reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix recent gag stunt 2. the scarves (reminds me of the Howells on Gilligans Island) 3. or the new 'stache? cheesy southern gentle...

Yeah, I agree WSS. Good for Nick for telling it like it is, but it seems a bit strange that he would air this out to Mojo magazine.

Re: Radio Radio on SNL: awesome or overrated?

Yes, you are overanalyzing it. No, it was not the greatest thing ever, and just a small footnote in the early part of his career, IMO. What makes it interesting was the rebelliousness of it, even though it doesn't seem like such a big deal to you or me. I guess Elvis and bandmates had been drinking ...

Re: EC & Jenny Lewis on David Letterman Nov. 3 '08

Hard to deny Jenny's certain something, but I don't think its that great of a single, and Elvis seems in competition with the hairy boyfriend. Weird performance.

And carpetbagger?? Are they singing about Hilary or Palin? Too many "oh yeahs".

Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime

I received a robo-call last week from the RNC with the "paid for by McCain-Palin" tag at the end. It told me, very matter of factly, that I should not vote for Obama, because he associates with terrorists that are killing americans. That really angered me. Can't vote for McCain now. Won't ...

Re: Elvis plays Richard deLone benefit, October 2 & 3, 2008

Sorry to hijack this thread and insert a shameless plug . . . but it is kind've in the ballpark. My little brother, Frank Arnold, also suffers from Prader-Willi Syndrome just like Richard deLone. I am COMPLETELY blown away and deeply MOVED that several of my longtime musical HEROES . . . Elvis, Nick...

Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime

I propose a drinking game for the next debate. Each time one of these phrases is mentioned, you must drink: "my friends" "main street/wall street" "three letters - K, G, B" "failed policies of the current administration" "Fannie Mae / Freddy Mac" &qu...

Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime

My friends, did anyone watch that stinking corpse of a debate last night? If McCain said "my friends" one more time . . . Even the normally smoove Obama was off-balance and dodging questions with re-run vagaries. It was a Town Hall NIGHTMARE - complete with Tom Brokaw talking about Zen-lik...

Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime

I thought Palin did just fine, Marge Gundersonisms aside. After her trainwreck of an interview with Katie Couric, I was definitely beginning to wonder. I think with this debate she proved that she is sharp, articulate, can think on her feet, and I have no doubt that she could lead this country (with...

Re: Random Thoughts

A trillion dollar bailout for Wall Street stupidity and lazy oversight. We can find the money to help corporate fatcats get out of the muck and we can dig enough change out of the sofa cushions to support a hugely expensive war in Iraq, but when it comes to basics like healthcare for our own middle...

Re: President Palin?

Alexv - don't you recall Obama's comments at a San Francisco fundraiser this past spring where he made his infamous "thats why they cling to their religion and their guns" speech (referring to small mid-western towns)? Thats the point I was making about religion/guns. With respect to a can...

Re: President Palin?

See the article linked below which addresses lots of the issues I touched on in my prior post on Palin. Notice how the gesture that made a positive impression on ET and others throughout the country (the licking of the hair by the kid) got a very different reaction from the media types. And the wri...

Re: President Palin?

Rope Leash, I agree with you for the most part, except when you wander off into the police-state nonsense. A lot of your links that you offer as "evidence" are weak at best. The 2 party system is broken, I very much agree. I'd vote for Ron Paul if I could. I have no faith that either candi...
