Re: Charlie Gillett - 1942 -2010

I was just thinking about what a debt of gratitude we owe to this man. He played a few tracks on his radio show and here we all are 30+ years later still getting excited about Elvis's next show, next album etc. I am sure that EC would have made it without that exposure on the Charlie Gillett show bu...

Re: "Get Happy" Thirty Years Strong

I remember buying the LP in a market stall in Bradford and a middle aged lady served me. She took a look at the sleeve (remember it had that well worn look?) and kept going back to the rack to get another copy before sighing and saying: "I'm sorry love, they're all like that!" Great album,...

Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .

I see that Cherry Red records in the UK has reissued the album by Clive Langer & the Boxes. Of course, he co-produced EC's albums Punch the Clock and Goodbye Cruel World. I used to have the LP (released in 1979) and I remember it being fairly average new wave stuff. So for EC completeists only, ...

Last year this series was broadcast in the UK over the Xmas & New Year period, on C4, albeit around midnight. Any news of it appearing in the UK this year?? Anyone heard?

Re: Elvis when you least expect it

I was watching Family Man with Nicholas Cage on TV last night. I had forgotten that EC was on the soundtrack. But in one scene Nicholas Cage is looking through some of his belongings given to him by his ex-girlfriend. Amongst them was the Trust LP! Nice touch.

I, too, was at the solo Royalty show in 1986, and I remember it as one of my favourite EC shows. He showed his "holiday snaps" on a slide projector, sangs songs as varied as Pretty in Pink, Sleep of the Just and Put Your Big Toe in the Milk of Human Kindness. I also remember a heart rendin...

The DVD of this series has appeared in our local Poundland. Anyone want me to pick one up for them? File under completists and John Foyle only.

Rod Stewart Sessions

Rod has released a 4CD box set of unreleased tracks. Some are versions of classics, some never saw the light of day at all. One tracks is The Long Journey Home written by Elvis and Paddy Maloney of The Chieftains. And a very nice job Rod made of it too.

Glad to know you are back safe and sound, John. While you were away EC has released to albums, written a concerto, and a song cycle in Swedish.

Re: Elvis Costello: Stand-up comedian?

When I saw Elvis on his first solo tour in Harrogate in 1984, he commented that the theatre had displayed the words "Elvis Solo" on the marquee outside. "I wonder if he's any relation to Napoleon Solo" then went straight into Man Called Uncle.

I thought that was rather funny.

Re: Original of 'I Wanna Be Loved'

It would be interesting to compile a CD of Elvis's finest live moments. I know there was a Joe Jackson live series of CDs which someone compiled of great live versions or one off covers. It ran to 25 discs I think.

A cherry picking of the live recordings anyone??

...Or rather Diana when you least expect her. I watched an extremely tedious film last night called Publie Enemies with Johnny Depp. Diana makes a very brief appearance as a night club singer performing Bye Bye Blackbird.

Watch your Step Aerobics

I notice EC has lost a lot of weigh recently. I saw him with the Brodskys in Manchester and watching the the You Tube footage of him in Winnepeg, I would say a couple of stone has been shed. Will the EC workout DVD be on the way? Has Diana put him on a strict diet? Is he running himself ragged picki...

Re: Elvis in London, July 1996

I seem to remember he appered with Steve on Richard & Judy's short-lived evening chat show singing All This Useless Beauty.

The four singles released in July 96 all contained one of the strangest EC songs Almost Ideal Eyes, a song I love but don't know why!

Didn't Elvis's father in law (Diana's dad) give him some Bing recordings or sheet music for his birthday? I think that Mr Krall is a collector of old 78s or sheet music

No-one responded to my Archies reference, but "Pour a Little Sugar on me.." is one of the fade out lines from their 1969 smash hit. Am I the only one old enough to remember? Or the only one sad enought to know the lyrics?
