Re: well, what do you think of

A few years ago EC said that he had to pay Leonard Bernstein for using a musical line from America in Button my LIp. I wonder if the Archies will be looking for their royalties for the line in From Sulphur to Sugarcane?

Re: EC to release Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

There is ONE copy in HMV Bradford. Whether this means they have nearly sold out or that they only got stocked one copy in the first place, I don't know. But I suspect the latter.

Re: Diana talking about Elvis

This is from a buyer's review on Amazon UK: "Personally I find this album very pleasant. Only thing is that no matter how sexily Diana poses on the cover it doesn't work because the listener knows she is married to that yowling, bearded porker Elvis Costello. Takes away the sexiness a bit. But ...

Re: Nick Lowe Dates

Nick and the band were excellent at Holmfirth on Thursday night. What a great little venue, a little run down perhaps but full of charm. The dressing room is up three flights of stairs, so we could see Ron S and Nick Lowe carefully descending the stairs, guitar in hand. I think the set list was the ...

Re: EC & Brodsky Quartet - Bridgewater Hall, Manchester 27 April

I had a great time at the Bridgewater Hall last night and it was good to meet John F, Dave P, and Mr & Mrs Top Balcony. Although in row B, I had the worst view possible, as EC was hidden by the music stand of the newest Brodsky. Fortunately, I was able to change seats for the 2nd half. I have li...

Re: New TV show: "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with ..."

Elvis can't have meant what he said about James Taylor being one of the great American voices along with Sinatra and Billie Holiday, can he? Easy Listening would be my description of the work of Mr Taylor, and that would be a polite description. When I was a student James Taylor was something the gi...

Re: Nick Lowe Dates

I went to Holmfirth yesterday where Nick is appearing on 21st May. I looked at the What's On guide outside the venue. Go West get a poster, The Blow Monkeys get a poster, The Blues Band get a poster, a Kate Bush Tribute band even had a poster. And our Nick gets a hand-written notice in felt tip pen!...

Re: Joe Jackson

I know there are a lot of similarities between JJ and EC - they emerged at the same time from the UK new wave scene; they both went off tangents with JJ's Jumping Jive and EC's Almost Blue around the same time; they have both recorded classical albums and by and large done their own things. But does...

BEYOND BELIEF - EC FAN MAGAZINES

I have a collection of Beyond Belief the EC fanzine which was a very professional; glossy mag in the second half of the 90's. There are approx 28 issues (I say approx because sometimes there were double issues) and are in a proper binder. I intend to stick them on ebay but I wondered if any of you n...

Re: 10 year anniversary of "Painted From Memory"

I love this album and have been playing it this week! Can't believe its 10 years old. Coincidentally, I just had to throw out my chipped and cracked Lonely World Tour mug this week. I remember a documentary on UK TV where EC and Burt were debating over the length of the gap between "so" an...

The Undertones have released an anthology with a some unreleased demos. One track is called Party Party - they were asked to record a song for the film of that name, but were beaten by Elvis! A bit of trivia there for you!
