It was Frank Sinatra-I remembered his first wife, Mia Farrow and his widow but forgot the one he couldn't Ava Gardner. I know they had an affair and I'm pretty sure they married. Now Bambooneedle is pining for Priscilla and Ann Margaret. Jack of all Parades is about a man who settled for less than l...

I love this record and 'Gigi'. Don't be so dismissive of his vocal performance on it. The guitar is exquisite and the over all feel is haunting. It's the Elvis Halloween record or at least one for a dark, stormy night. That version of 'Poor Napoleon' is amazing as are the three less familiar tracks....

Bobster-Elektra? Does morning become me? I'm a Ninja assassin? Hmmm. .I think I know why you chose her though, unfortunately the reason no longer exists. I've giving up killing for the holidays. Jackson Doofster-Does that mean we get matching outfits and get paid for being at an Elvis concert? Count...

Bambooneedle-Since you've been married three or four times, I'll take your word on the newly married angle. A cover of an obscure song by Willie Mitchell that was preformed by Teacher's Edition. It's an almost painfully honest discourse on loneliness and the longing to belong to some one. Green of S...

'Sha la la. . ' Preformed with Mr. Lowe it's a song about loving a woman who may be less than ideal. But alas he loves her and only her she is THE one. He can't help himself and takes her with all her flaws. Even at the possible cost of unfaithfulness. Another Bacharach cover sticking very much to f...

Hey I like 'Deep Dead Blue'! Hey I like 'She'! I'm not a teenager and haven't been for awhile. While I never saw the movie (why would I?) I read a brilliant and witty review of it in The New Yorker-the glorious Anthony Lane. An easy seduction due to skill and selection. A willingness to give of inno...

Written for Charles Brown (and he dared to change the lyric) I love this on 'A Case for Song'. It's a sophisticated song about the breathlessness of love and the mystical connection between two people. Even when there is loss of words there is a deep understanding which transcends all forms of commu...

Elvis sings this again with feeling and sorrow. The song is the fate of a love affair that has ended but one of the two is still in love. It deals mainly with the missing of the other person and ends with an invitation to return because life is meaningless and burdensome without them. His interpreta...

I think Pidgin English is about the degradation of language leading to the destruction of culture. Maybe my own views sneaking in in that analysis. Word. Town Cryer- The fashionable state of sorrow. Being unhappy is always more interesting than happiness, especially for the artist. The competition f...

He finds himself in the wonder of love wandering the streets bewildered at his feelings as if he could never conceive them. Nothing seems the same and he attribute these foreign thoughts and emotions to his new found love. He realizes 'how little we know'. Everything is strange and beautiful and he ...

From 'Almost Blue' a song of deflowering and regret. The singer was the first lover she had and he pines for her as she is with another. (Hey that rhymed! Does that make me a poet?) He wants her back and offers himself to her with total surrender. Elvis does this one very beautifully and with sorrow...

A Rodgers and Hart classic sung so inventively by Elvis. I love the minimalist Elvis and this brilliant song needs no flourishes. The song speaks loving someone who is less than perfect yet perfect to the narrator. Loving someone and their imperfections is rarely treated in song and with such tender...

Less than zero-Because he can. A song about initial attraction to the opposite sex. The astonishment at the new fascination to unravel the mystery of it all. A lot of Catholic references but they are predominant throughout his work. Being the Elvis nerd I am, I love to make note of them. I th...
