LTZ, I too ignored Elliott Smith for way too long. People -- the people I trust to tell me about music -- kept telling me he was "too emo" and that I wouldn't like him. Finally one of those friends admitted she had started listening to him and couldn't stop, so I went right out and bought ...

Completely baffling to me. First, it makes no sense that the entire Beatles catalog isn't on here, because most of these bands never made an album that could even compare to the least Beatles album. (I also feel the same way about the Kinks but I'm willing to concede that is not an objective opinion...

Two LPs by the Jayhawks, Rainy Day Music and Tomorrow the Green Grass . I haven't listened to them yet but I loved Hollywood Town Hall. Plus I pre-ordered Ray Davies' Other People's Lives, which is due out on Feb 22 (I saw him at the Supper Club in New York last November so I've heard several of the...

Just had a number of Randy Newman songs come up on my iTunes -- Real Emotional Girl, Marie, I Miss You, the soulful stuff rather than the satiric things. I don't listen to it all the time but when it shuffles on it hits me.

Less Than Zero, I will take your suggestions under consideration (except I already have most of the Ben Folds stuff 8) , brilliant songwriting there), but I was looking for EC titles. I do have a lot of the Rhino reissues, which are superb -- the liner notes alone made me glad I waited this long to ...

I Am Not Worthy....

Well, after a couple of sessions trying to sift through everything on this site, I have concluded that I must not be much of an Elvis Costello fan. I mean, I own 14 or 15 of his albums (and that's not counting double for ones I have both in vinyl and CD -- I even have a few of those quaint au...

I've got to chime in on this Hiatt stuff -- I agree, I like the weathered voice really well, these songs have a lot of texture. "Find You At Last" has a kind of gritty desperation to it that I love; "Cold River" is gravelly and shattering; and "Thunderbird" makes me wan...

Yeah, Labour of Love had some good tracks -- the two by Marshall Crenshaw were fine, so was Andrea Re's When I Write the Book. Charlie Musselwhite on Faithless Lover maybe outdid Nick's version. And Elvis did a superb job with Egypt, of course. But why did they let Dar Willams sing "All Men Are...

Just joined this board so I'm chiming in late. I can't say Elvis is my Number 1; that spot is reserved for Nick Lowe, who walks on water in my book. I would do anything, yes anything, for this man. After Nick would have to come Ray Davies (lead singer of the Kinks for those of you who are scratching...

I've heard bits of a few tracks, some are good, some are bad, usual for a tribute album. Why do they make these? Nevertheless as a devoted Lowe fan I have ordered it and am anxiously/queasily awaiting its arrival. I do know that Tiffany Anastasia Lowe is Nick's stepdaughter (Carlene Carter's daughte...
