Re: The Olympics

Brilliant. Am very jealous, as a drummer I spent a large chunk of it wishing I was one of them, though God they drummed for a long time (those who were at it throughout). Out of interest, how did you get involved that way? All the volunteers went through at least 2 auditions back in Oct/Nov of last...

Re: The Olympics

I was fortunate enough to be part of it all - drumming in the Industrial Revolution segment, then marshalling during the Parade of Nations. Got to stand 3 meters away from the cauldron as it went up. Certainly one of the most memorable moments of my life, and the entire rehearsal process leading up ...

Re: Recently viewed films

Had a chance to see the new Danny Boyle film this weekend with my family while in Boston, 127 Hours. Thoroughly enjoyed this movie and in particular the breakout performance by James Franco as the trapped hiker. Not for the faint of heart but you simply cannot keep your eyes off of Franco as he mov...

Re: Elvis/Imposters - Royal Albert Hall 24th May 2012

Steve on the RAH organ was a thing of beauty. Definitely a highlight of the show. And nice to see a full house 2 nights in a row.
(But I must say, the official program is waaay overpriced. £12? Seriously? I think that's the most expensive show program I've ever bought here in LDN)

Re: Recently viewed films

The Grey. Beautiful film. Absolutely nothing like the trailers - thankfully. Not a Liam Neeson vs. wolf bloodbath at all, but rather a visceral and honest character drama about survival. Neeson delivers a stellar, haunting performance, though you've got to wonder how much of it is really 'performanc...

Re: Elvis/Imposters play Montreal, 30 July '11

Ah yes, poutine. A Quebecois staple. When I was at university in Montreal I interned at a magazine that put together the world's biggest poutine as a publicity stunt. We had a 400lb of potatoes, 40L of gravy and 22kg of cheese. Fed half the neighbourhood. A local poet read her Ode to Poutine. You ca...

New Krall-Costello material

So apparently there's a new Krall-Costello tune floating about out there. Diana tested it out at a recent show. Titled "Home". Hopefully we'll hear more in the coming days - she's currently doing some solo shows culminating in 3 nights at the Montreal Jazz Fest. Also, reportedly playing th...

Went to Nobel Peace Prize museum in Oslo a few weeks ago. Can report that the gift shop sells PLU postcards, right up there with those featuring mugs and quotes from the likes of Mandela, Walensa, or Tutu. The postcard is orange, with "What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding" i...
