First Prince, now Ray Davies...

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Does this sort of thing happen (e.g.) in the US, or is it just a UK thing?

I've never heard of it here, RTHTW.

Would he SELL 1.5 million copies?

Neil Young is giving everyone who bought a pair of tickets to his upcoming shows a free copy of Chrome Waves II, his upcoming album, but concert tickets cost way more than a newspaper.

And to answer your question, moody, I think they wouldn't count that towards actual record sales - laws overseas are a lot weirder than the ones over here. Back when Beck released The Information, it was considered out of the running for album charts, simply because it was of the "unconvential variety" because of its make-you-own cover art.

I believe Prince did something similar to that as well, Blue. And what I meant was, would they PRINT 1.5 million copies of his cd if they weren't giving them away?

Probably not! I'm not sure some of his most popular Kinks titles have sold that much.
