I don't have them in front of me but I do recall EC talking about his life-long friend Joel in the liner notes to either the Ryko or Rhino reissue of BY.

That sounds right. Didn't Joel move to Australia? I seem to recall that EC said he visited him whilst he was on tour (sometime within the last 12 years or so). I love the pictures of the two of them growing up playing cowboys. Such child like innocence.
