Solomon Burke

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Solomon Burke

Post by millen »

I just heard Burke's versions of The Judgement and Diamonds on your Mind (Tom Waits) and they are fabulous. The man has a terrific voice. I think The Judgement competes with Elvis's own version of it, that figures of course, since Elvis helped him record it.

I didn't really have a lot of money though, so I downloaded them of Kazaa.
Zombies man, they freak me out.

Buy "Don't Give Up On Me". It's great. As good as anything released this century. Plenty of songs as good as those two. Actually, Elvis' Judgement really doesn't hold a candle to Solomon's version in my book.

To pass on in the airport- on the road- doing what you love- sad news. This is how I will remember him.

I recommend anyone reading this pick up the Buddy Miller produced 'Nashville'. A killer record, including a great Jim Lauderdale cover (Someday You're Gonna Take Me Back) and what might be the definitive studio version of Tom T Hall's 'That's How I Got To Memphis' (although I think Buddy doing that live acoustic is still the greatest thing since garlic bread).
