Steve Nieve in Squeeze Liverpool Philharmonic 29/11/10

Post by oliversa1 »

It was a great night at the Liverpool Philharmonic last night, first of all the Lightening Seeds came on followed by the main act Squeeze which featured Steve Nieve on keyboards.

Steve was in outstanding form and looked as though he enjoyed every minute. A superb night all round.

It's one of my favourite venues also.

Yes it's a great hall with wonderful acoustics. Apart from the EC shows my favourite memory here is when a then up-and-coming musician with the working name "Elton John" played piano and sang for an encore a la "Couldn't call it Unexpected" ie without any mikes. This was due to the existence of a curfew at 10.30pm and had led the stage crew to pull the plugs and turn on the houselights. Undaunted he returned to play ("Your Song"?) to a hushed and adoring crowd. Fantastic.

On the other hand if you are at the back of the balcony it's a very long way from the stage as Misha wrote of the 'Canes show :
The gig was fantastic, but our seats were somewhere near Birmingham. Heck, we might have been closer to the stage if we'd stayed in Carlisle.
As for a recording of Steve and his new bandmates - those trusty lapels appear to have stuck again, can't wait to hear this! Thanks in anticipation.

Will be on dime once I've track marked my colleagues Weller at the NIA, Birmingham - he borrowed my minidisc recorder.
Most amazing part of Squeeze - a point where all five band members did a little choreography to a backing track. Steve revived the ghost of EC and The A's most famous videos wth the nimble dexterity of Ann Widecombe ( or so I've been told !)

Love the HD quality! Only got a few glimpses, but has Steve shed some pounds? He looked pretty chubby on Spectacle; much slimmer a year later. Perhaps EC is sharing his P90X DVD's?
