Dear Diana Krall Fans,

Diana has been very busy working on her next
recording, which should be released in the Spring of
2004! We promised we wouldn't ruin the surprise for
you, but we can tell you this is going to be an
incredible experience for you! Diana has grown
tremendously since her last record and it really
shows on this album.

We spent the week together during the mixing, which
happened at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles.
Producer Tommy LiPuma and Engineer Al Schmidt worked
together again on this project. It was an intense
week with lots of decisions to be made. As you may
know, when an artist records, they don't always put
every song on the album, so there are decisions to
be made about what songs to keep. The sequencing of
the songs is also very important because like a
book, the album often tells a story and so the order
has to be right so that the entire album makes
sense. I found it incredible how these talented
people (Diana included) could listen to something over
and over again without losing perspective. I
mean, to me it is like looking at a painting and
having to analyze every brush stroke.

After the mixing and all of the musical decisions
have been made, then the physical album has to be
put together and that includes photographs that give
a visual sense of what the artist is wanting to
express. Again, we don't want to ruin the surprise,
but we can tell you that it will be different from
what you have seen before. It's amazing what goes
into a photo shoot for an album. There were about a
dozen people working on site. Oh, I can't tell any
more right now, but it was SO much fun and a lot of
hard work. You'll see it soon and you'll recognize
the photographer. I can't wait to see the actual
photos.

As soon as we have a release date that we can
publicize, we'll announce it on The Official Diana
Krall Fan Site at http://www.dianakrall.com, which will
also have a new look. So, stay tuned and keep
checking in with us!!!

Best regards,
Michelle Krall

Will it be called 'East'?

The 'candid shots' on the website don't work!

It's far and away one of my very favorite sites.

Too bad Elvis doesn't have a site this good.

I listened to the endless music samples. Boy are they boring! Isn't Elvis a little embarrassed to be with someone so obvious and non-innovative?

What I wouldn't do.

Post by A rope leash »

The reason that I like the site so much is that I'm in love with Diana Krall.

Or, I should say, I'm in love with the way she looks. It's like I've loved her before, and I am reminded.

My "Krall Lust" thread was an indulgent piece of tongue-in-cheek inspired by my innate attraction to her. Is Elvis the jealous type?

It doesn't matter. I'm likely to say anything. There's no telling if I'm serious. There's a really good chance I'm just making it seem like I am.

I'm not sure about Diana's music. I haven't heard a lot of it. It seems like it doesn't match. I don't care. I just love the way she looks.

She looks just like a Telefunken U-47.

If by boring you mean: passionate, smooth, romantic and mellow; and by obvious and non-innovative you mean: fresh takes on cool classics with an appeal to the younger non-traditional jazz fan.... then yeah, she's a real snore.

Her voice and playing lack the passion and feeling that vocal jazz should have. Hence the emptiness and boringness.

With that said, I like her version of "That Old Feeling", but I definitely can't find much else that I like. I'd much rather listen to Chet Baker.

Chet Baker is huge in South Korea. I remember shopping for cds in Seoul and being very suprised by the fact that the man's whole catalogue (or at least a dozen or so albums) were in every store. It never ceases to amaze me how certain artists can be cult figures in their home country but enjoy mass popularity overseas.

Diana Krall is an intelligent, ambitious, good-looking woman, but her music? Couldn't care less about it. At first I thought it was because it was a little too safe for me, too content to stick to mellow and non-threatening, but I like other artists who also couldn't be said to break any new boundaries with their music. It comes down to emotion; if I feel something when the artist sings, or if I can identify with the emotion the artist is expressing, chances are I'm going to want to listen more.

Diana Krall does not move me, or arouse me, or even irritate me. She plays dentist waiting room music: kind of pretty, slightly jazzy, non-threatening, and ultimately forgettable.

I really have heard very little of her stuff, but I remember liking her voice, and her phrasing.

Have to say I disagree about Krall. Her Live in Paris album and the first Impulse disc (the Nat "King" Cole tribute) in particular are quite good. She's a fine vocalist and pianist. I think that all of the hype, glamour photos and marketing haven't helped her reputation with hardcore jazz fans, but I think she's given an unfair shake by some people.

I'm with you Whtesde!

Burnished: you're a bit of a fan, eh? Fair dues. She can play and sing, but who really needs another 'easy listening' cover of 'I Love You Just The Way You Are'?

'North' is difficult listening. Initially hard to get the full sense of, but hugely rewarding and lovable once you've lived with it a bit. The opposite of the woman who seemingly inspired much of it, or her music anyway.

Sure she's gorgeous (though I can't stand the mouth and teeth, such a turn-off!), but there must be a weird musical mis-match going on there. Who cares? It's love, sweet love.

Otis, I'm an administrator and co-designer on TheJazzPrincess.com, A website dedicated to Diana. I'm a huge fan of hers, so of course I'm biased. And you're not alone on the JTWYA cover...THAT was a snore fest. It was added because of the Guru soundtrack. It had no place on the cd, imho. Diana's worst recording, I'd say.

In all fairness, I hated Elvis' music in the begining...but the more I listened, the more I learned and loved.

If you want to give Diana the time of day, listen to Live in Paris or watch the DVD of the same name. THAT is Diana at her best.....so far.

Just to clarify, I'm not anti-Diana at all... I'm very happy for both her and Elvis, and wish them nothing but the best.

However, as it stands now, I'm content to not listen to her music. :D

I must admit I have never heard her music and don't think I ever will...I don't listen to female singers.....and I don't want to ruin the image of her in my head if she's lousy.
