Could just be that uncomfortable position the photographer placed them in.

I'd be a bit surprised if divorce was on their minds since this photo was taken in 2003. . .had they even gotten married yet? (sorry, my Elvis trivia is failing me and I can't recall the date of his marriage to Diana. . .luckily, I haven't yet forgotten my own anniversary date!)

I believe they were married in December 2003. That's actually they're wedding photo.
I just think that the photogs instruct them not to smile because she looks like a horse when she does and Elvis' teeth leave a lot to be desired.
(Sorry El, that's not to say I don't love his smile.)
Image is everything.
I'm not angry anymore....

Looks like something circa the North photoshoot.
Mind you, I'm convinced that cover's a rip-off of this 2001-ish DK picture:

Bartomeu Amengual for The New York Times
Elvis Costello, also a Seliger subject.

IT'S hard to imagine the photographer Mark Seliger bored or for that matter worrying about beauty rest. He does have an alt-country band, after all. And he just opened a photography gallery, 401 Projects, next to his studio in the West Village.
The gallery's opening night last month was more party than salon. Several of his famous subjects were on hand: the married singers Elvis Costello and Diana Krall (who tango in their stairwell portrait) and Lenny Kravitz (pictured leaning on the floorboards).
