Elvis Costello - 1984-04-15 New York

Post by strangerinthehouse »

Just saw that somebody reposted this excellent recording from 1984 on DIME.

Not sure if anyone had posted about before but I'm listening to it now and cannot believe how great it sounds. If you've heard the Goodbye Cruel World Bonus Disc and were in awe of the raw solo performances featured there, this is just more of that. Excellent, heart-rending versions of "Men Called Uncle," "The Only Flame in Town," and so many others without any major audio issues.

solo performance

source: very nice audience recording
taped by: TaperAdvocat
equipment: Sony ECM 150 Mic's > Sony Walkman D6 Cassette > TDK MA-R90 Tape

This show was posted on EZT in January 2005 by TaperAdvocat. It stayed on the tracker through March 2005 and 328 times snatched. Here it is again for anyone who missed it.

I did some minor retracking, split off one talk segment into a separate track, and smoothed over tape flips and encore breaks with brief fades.
Editing lineage: Audacity (retracking, fades) > TLH > FLAC 6 (align SB) > Foobar2000 (flac tags).

a stunningly beautiful analog recording. funnily enough, my brother also had to sneak in a MONSTER cassette recorder this night. he was rejected at first ticket taker and got it in (for me!) on his next attempt. the FIRST EVER of the brothers apostle recordings. sounds pretty similar to this one. is anything missing here? if it lacks nothing, i guess we're good. if something is amiss, i'll gladly share "our" version as well. ANALOG POWER!!!! :D p.s. it will always be titled MAN CALLED UNCLE to me!!!!!!!!!!!

Me too. When was the title actually corrected/changed? I listened to GH so many times when it was new that it's totally ingrained in my brain as "Man Called Uncle".
