SANTA CRUZ: new EC or old BOB DYLAN lyrics?

firstly, BIG thanks to this GREAT videographer for allowing us to have this song to listen to immediately. MUCH APPRECIATED! great filming too.

i've been trying to piece lyrics together...got a nice batch, but not NEARLY all. i will try to share them soon here. but, with the upcoming Dylan release and Elvis' penchant for playing some of these songs as of late, i can't decide if this is more EC or BOB lyrically??? any opinions?

i love the song no matter who wrote it...a gem!

The lyrics seem Dylan-ey to me, but maybe it's just as likely that EC wrote it in Dylan's style after having been immersed in the Lost on the River songs?

Suggested additions/corrections:

SANTA CRUZ

I was spending my pay in Monterey
I left my beast back east
The weather wasn't on my mind
But it was hot to say the least
Upon every rambling street I stayed(?)

feeling so sharp and snide
who but a young man driving by
said "Hello" to me and asked if I wanted to ride.

"Oh, where would you be going to
my dear loveless one?"
And with whom will you be gone

"I was just driving up to Santa Cruz" she said
And then commenced to yawn
"Shut your mouth" a gentleman across the street did scream
just as she turned back to look at him
I swerved right in behind the wheel

Oh, Santa Cruz please don't make me choose
I've painted in reds and whites and blues
I've got smokeless powder and a splintered board(?)
all the way, all the way, all the way
down the crooked road to Santa Cruz

Now I might want to ____________
but then I did hit the gas
I tore right out of there so quick
a calculated blast
everything was in front of me that day
but there was nothing I didn't pass
oh but when we pulled into Santa Cruz
she said "Oh boy, you sure got class."

Love the madlibs style, BA. Santa Cruz - I love that town. Killer tune! I will be in Santa Cruz In two weeks and everything will be mellow and completely laid back. Yes, the way to live is in Santa Cruz.

fantastic ears ANCT! thanks for playing. and honestly, your further assistance sure appears to make it DYLAN words, no?
i was naturally already thinking motorcycle song, but with your "beast back east" add could it be 2014 Elvis rather than 1960's Bob?
i guess it is possible as suggested by THE GENT via the immersion. let's hope we get another take before October ends to play with.
oh and if this is indeed EC adding music to old Bob words, it is a magical connection how perfectly the music fits these words, yes?

The new edition of Sid Griffin's "Million Dollar Bash" (which surveys the Basement Tapes) mentions a song with the name "Santa Cruz" as a rumored Basement Tape recording. Although he discusses the "Lost On The River" project elsewhere in the book (and indeed, later in the same paragraph), he doesn't give any indication his awareness of this particular title has anything to do with it. Sadly, he doesn't give any indication regarding the basis of his claim.

Although it's not a direct confirmation, the coincidence is so great that it has to lend credence to the idea that this song is indeed a LOTR outtake.
