Chernobyl

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

That's the most horrific thing I've ever seen.
What this world needs is more silly men.

God that's sobering (and maybe the 'here's to beer' ads are in rather poor taste here). One of the most awful things to have happened in my lifetime. It's simply unbelievable to see how awful the consequences have been.
There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more

I was a 4-year-old living in Poland at the time; one of my earliest memories from childhood was standing in really long lines at the local clinic for my government-ordered iodine shots. This was over 2 weeks after the fact though - too little, too late, for a lot of people.

Yes I read an article on NG. It's very sad just how many people were affected and the huge irresponsibility on the administration's part. Just like Katrina, it's incredible how some "powerful" nations can't seem to take care of some catastrophies.
Preacher was a talkin' there's a sermon he gave,
He said every man's conscience is vile and depraved,
You cannot depend on it to be your guide
When it's you who must keep it satisfied
