Hey there -- finally catching up. I'm in as soon as I register, and I might have another team manager who might want to join in. I know he visits the ECFF, but I don't think he's ever posted anything. Shall I drag him in?

OK, the season begins on April 2 and ends on October 1. I would like to give people the opportunity to get their teams set and make any necessary transactions prior to opening day, so I will not set the league status as "Ready" for the auto-draft until Saturday, March 25. Does that sound reasonable? Until then, any new players who wish to join are more than welcome.

Sad to say, I think that Preki and his silky skills are no longer gracing the pitches of the US of A.mood swung wrote:I did read that story. What's amazing to me is that he got away with it for so long. Like he gains 50 lbs of muscle and everyone pretends they don't notice.
And Sam, you can play - as long as you take Preki.
Regarding the Bonds story, it's shameful really. Selig and the other idiots in charge of MLB were completely asleep at the wheel for an entire decade. It makes a mockery of the record books. We now can be sure that Bonds, McGwire and Palmeiro were juicing. Sosa and guys like Brady Anderson almost dead certs as well. If I were one of the old school guys like Hank Aaron I'd be livid.

but back to baseball - steroids! in baseball!
(this is where the crusty Tom Hanks character says 'there's no steroids in baseball!')

Many in the know believe that steroid use was even more rampant among pitchers. It's just a cloud over the whole era - I mean Clemens seems to have gotten better over the last several years - it's just not normal that guys like Bonds and Clemens would be at the peaks of the careers into their early 40's - there is no precedent for that happening in any sport (maybe darts).....Not only a shame about Selig, but what about the national media - guys like Gammons and Kirchen = regular Bonds apologists. You're right - shameful.Regarding the Bonds story, it's shameful really. Selig and the other idiots in charge of MLB were completely asleep at the wheel for an entire decade. I remember watching the McGwire/Sosa home run hysteria and thinking there was something not quite right about it - the numbers they were putting up were just obscene. They were so eager to get the sport back on track after the strike that I think they lost sight of a lot of things - steroids among them.
The sad thing about Bonds is that he was an incredible player BEFORE he began this steroids regime. I remember going to a game at Candlestick Park in the early '90s and being amazed by his ability at the plate - he never swung at a bad pitch and always seemed to know what was coming. Think he hit two homers against the Reds that day.
