Re: Mystery songs on ASCAP site
There is a "new" song registered at ASCAP: Running Out Of Angels by Declan Patrick MacManus.
Could this be a new version of the song?

Another "new" song is registered at ASCAP: Fire Suite 3.
Now credited to Ray Dobbins, Roy Nathanson AND Elvis.
I checked the sleevenote from the Juliet Letters reissue and there this song is only credited to Ray Dobbins and Roy Nathanson.
Has Elvis reworked this song?

A new song is registered on ASCAP: "Christ Concious", written by Elvis, Gauthier Gerald and Virginie Jo Vaughn and performed by Joey Bada.
Could this be this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRfQGXFRr30 ?

Re: Mystery songs on ASCAP site
To my ears it sounds like "Christ Concious" features a sample from When I Was Cruel No 2 . Funnily enough the snippet used is itself a sample from a Mina track , Un Bacio È Troppo Poco, written by Antonio Amurri & Bruno Canfora .

A new song is registered on the ASCAP site: I Can't Turn It Off (Written by Elvis Costello).
A demo of this song is featured in "Mystery Dance": http://www.elviscostellofans.com/phpBB3 ... &p=7711270
Could this mean that "Mystery Dance" will get a DVD release?

Didn't he play that at the Clover show in 2007?

"Warm House" is a song from the Rusty days. Maybe he quotes it in his book?
Re: Mystery songs on ASCAP site
The "enhanced ebook" version of the memoir sounds like it could account for both of these songs being registered now: http://www.penguin.com/book/unfaithful- ... 0399576591
Specifically:
"The deluxe eBook edition of Elvis Costello’s Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink features two hundred additional photos and images, including more from Costello’s original lyrics notebooks and a selection of his family’s most intriguing documents and vintage photographs. Pages from his father’s scrapbooks from the early ‘50s Merseyside jazz scene are contrasted with a ledger of setlists and meager fees from the author’s early musical partnership in Rusty on the Liverpool club scene and other mementoes from Costello’s musical apprenticeship."

Re: Mystery songs on ASCAP site
The elusive "No Star" mysteriously appeared on an Elvis best 100 songs list reportedly compiled by Elvis a couple of years back. Maybe we'll hear it one day.
Re: Mystery songs on ASCAP site
"No Star" gets mentioned, and quoted, in the memoir. EC says it was written around the same time as, and is of a piece with, "Poison Moon" and "Jump Up":
The last in this group of songs was a more ambitious piece called “No Star,” about the absence of any lucky, guiding light in the sky. The title was a play on words, employing the Welsh “Good night” — Nos da — with which my mother sometimes bade me to sleep as a child, having learned it from our landlady in Olympia. It concluded:
If there’s one thing that’s worse than being lost
It’s knowing you’re so close to being found

This one is also addressed in the book:And No Coffee Table wrote:What Is It That I Need That I Don't Already H
The title cuts off, but I assume the last word is "have." I still don't know the song though.
(But the year was probably 2007, unless EC hung out with Bob Dylan in Bloomington on two occasions.)In 2008, I was standing in the loading bay in Bloomington, Indiana, with Mellencamp and Bob Dylan. John asked Bob if he was writing any new songs.
It was a question best answered with another question: "What is it that I need that I don't already have?"
I thought, Is that a song title? Well, it is now.
And I wrote a little song of thwarted ambition that remains unpublished.

Elvis Costello sang and played the last lines of the song in the Two and a Half Men episode, "Back Off, Mary Poppins".

Re: Mystery songs on ASCAP site
The phrase "Rally Round The Flag" also appears in "Pills And Soap" (and "Stick Out Your Tongue").
IMDB says a song called "Jolly Grim Repo" performed by The Imposters(!) appears in the 1995 film The Immortals. This is clearly not the Imposters we know and love — a former member of the other Imposters has a website — but I wonder if the Imposters name somehow caused the song to be misfiled under EC's name.
Another Imposters song in the film is called "Evil Is." Perhaps that's the same song as the "Evil" listed on ASCAP?

Re: Mystery songs on ASCAP site
I'm wondering whether we can take everything that the ASCAP site says at face value. I've been looking at this in some detail and have found quite a few anomalies. For example. The song count has now gone up to 646 which means that 3 extra songs have been added but on close inspection these would appear to be all from "Wise Up Ghost" including "Sugar Won't Work" and "My New Haunt". Why has it taken so long to add these to the list? Also there are some glaring omissions. "Having It All", "Harpies Bizarre" from "Mighty Like A Rose", "Why Can't A Man Stand Alone?" from "All This Useless Beauty", "Abandon Words" and "Poison Letter", the 2 Brutal Youth out-takes and at least 4 songs from the Wendy James album are all missing......and that's just for starters....
I have no idea under what circumstances a song needs to be registered with ASCAP anyway. Does it need to be recorded? Or just played in concert? Can anyone shed some light on this matter?

Re: Mystery songs on ASCAP site
There are 6 new songs on the ASCAP site though I can only find 5 of them.
"Married To My Hack" and "6 Months in Kansas City" from The New Basement Tapes have finally been added, along with 2 songs from that project that have yet to see the light of day but which have appeared in concert - "Golden Tom - Silver Judas" and "Hidee Hidee Ho #16".
One other song that I do not recognise is "Entangled".
It's possible that the 6th song is "Tommy's Coming Home" from the McCartney demos as this now appears twice - as "Tommy's Coming Home" and "Tommy's Coming Home Again"

OK. So "Entangled" is part of the Il Sogno suite so that clears that one up.
