Most Annoying Song By Them - new game

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Most Annoying Song By Them - new game

Post by bambooneedle »

Same rules as the ill fated 'Best Or Better Song Game' thread except this one doesn't require much specialized knowledge of the nominees-- pick their most annoying song until someone chooses someone new.

To start off:

John Cougar Mellencamp - Jack And Diane. A few JCM numbers immediately come to mind but I chose this one because of "Suckin' on a Chili Dog Outside the Tastee-Freeze" and similarly poetic lines.

Obla Di Obla Da - the Beatles
echos myron like a siren
with endurance like the liberty bell
and he tells you of the dreamers
but he's cracked up like the road
and he'd like to lift us up, but we're a very heavy load

Slow Train - Bob Dylan (the line about "foreign sheiks" really, really irks me as badly as anything Train or Creed ever subjected my poot eardrums to)

Rolling Stones - Satisfaction. I know, blasphemy, but I have always found this song to be overrated. The Stones did much much better work than this. I kinda like Devo's version though, not to mention Otis Redding's.

Hmm... I can see your argument (though I disagree), but certainly there are worse Stones songs than "Satisfaction"

"Start Me Up" for instance... if I have to hear that song one more f'ing time...

My favourite version is a toss up between Cat Power's and Otis Redding's

"I'm Proud to be an American" -- Lee Greenwood. The most annoying song by ANYONE.

And, it has to be said, though I like it, due to being overplayed, I guess it's possible that G.L.O.R.I.A. is, in fact, the most annoying song by Them.

Annoying is entirely too kind a word for God Bless The U.S.A. It's enough to make me set phasers to Ass Whomp.

No question, "I Just Called to Say I Love You" is not only by far the most annoying Stevie Wonder song, but it's probably the most annoying song by a musical genius, ever (with the possibility of the deliberately irritating "Revolution #9").

Well, that's TWO musical geniuses (controversial though this may be, I consider Paul to be at least threes steps down from Stevie in his solo career, so I'm not quite sure)

And what about "The Dog-Gone Girl is Mine"

I'm a lighter...or a fover.

And I don't think Eric Burdon (was it War or the Animals he was with?) ever got more annoying, or more plain dumb than "San Francisco Nights" which "includes Indians, too" on "a warm San Francisca night" (only an Englishman would call ANY San Francisco night "warm"!)

Wasnt Eric Burdon in War AND the Animals?

"Put The Lime in the Coconut" by the otherwise brilliant Mr Nilsson is of course the most annoying song of all time - I mean the mere mention of it locks the tune into your brain till it breaks.

That was when he was Eric Burdon & The Animals (as opposed to just The Animals who could do no wrong)
