Tower of Shame

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Tower of Shame

Post by Jackson Monk »

Has this been done before?

Poor efforts from (otherwise great) artists who really should know better:

Elvis Costello - Party Party
David Bowie - Laughing Gnome
Bruce Springsteen - The Fuse
Christy Moore - Don't Forget Your Shovel
John Lennon - Woman
The Beach Boys - Lady Linda
Prince - We March
Suggs - Camden Town
Blur - Country House
Dexys - Come on eileen (I don't care how much money it made!)

Noise, you beat me to it.

Doof, I love Dexy's and that's a pop classic.

Can't bear to see this Ringo masterpiece (have loved it since being tiny) being dissed, even worse than the immortal Laughing Gnome being included (someone please change it!), so let's go for an awful cover by the Dame:

David Bowie - Laughing Gnome
Bruce Springsteen - The Fuse
Christy Moore - Don't Forget Your Shovel
Elvis Costello - Broken
The Beach Boys - Lady Linda
Prince - We March
John Hiatt - Little Head
Blur - Country House
David Bowie - God Only Knows (why I bothered to ruin this song on my worst ever LP)
Steve Wonder - I Just Called to Say I Love You

this is too hard. if it was that we could put in poor efforts (from otherwise frequently pretty good artists) artists who should really know better, it would be a might easier. anyway...

out: john hiatt cause he is a nice guy and stop picking on middle-aged men
in: jackson browne

David Bowie - Laughing Gnome

I'm not concerned about the very poor.

Gilli, I think you've missed the point, it's meant to be shit songs by otherwise great artistes. Middle of the Road were a one hit novelty band, never great. For this reason I take it out and re-insert EC, who is mostly great. I like Broken too though!!

Out: E.C. I think this song is one of the few highlights on GCW, a great cover that benefits from the otherwise stiff sound on that album.

IN: Peter Gabriel's Kiss Of Life. This is the one and only song of his that I truly hate.

Tracy Emin played this on Desert Island Discs the other week, saying it haunted her childhood, which was fraught with an absent father, and a mother who hard to work for hours on end in Tesco's or something. The song then took on this utterly tragic, utterly sinister tone, taunting, psychotic and disturbing. I'll never hear it in any other way from now on. An anthem for horribly absent parents.
