Qué pena de pabellón auditivo
Crónica | Concierto de Elvis Costello

(B. R. Sotelino | vigo)

El artista británico, arropado por su banda The Imposters, hizo un repaso por algunos de sus temas míticos: Radio Radio, Alison, Olivers Army, Watching the detectives , (I don't want to go) Chelsea , Pump it up , Almost blue ...

Goggle translation -

In spite of the adverse conditions of sound, the artist offered a generous concert in which during two hours and average she reviewed his extensive contribution to the history of music Whenever there is a concert in the Pavilion of Ace Travesas of Vigo, the public goes with resignation hoping that by magic art a basic problem for the benefit of a musical spectacle is solved. He is that the mentioned audience is like a great metallic box in which the sounds bounce of the ground to the ceiling and a wall to another one like in a party of squash. The spectators wait for the miracle, but the Virgin of Lourdes resists to help the sound technicians. And thus, one after another one, is falling myths from a scene that, or adecúa to that use, or that is used for the aims for which the field has been conceived, the sport encounter of all Hindu to him. At least, while music like competition is not accepted, Olympic or no. Of this form it would not be necessary to lament spectacles like which it offered the night of Thursday the British musician Elvis Costello. The artist offered one of those concerts that could be described as unforgettable by the quality of the interpreters and the energy and the genius that wasted the composer and interpreter. Without giving truce, Costello removed all the artillery and was connecting a song with another one, changing of rate without losing the north, uniting its impeccable ballads with its subjects in which it assembles styles without nothing hisses: of the espídico rock to reagee bailón, of soul sensual to the pop setentero, of the jazz to country like a luxury car: accelerating from zero to one hundred in a matter of seconds. When it began, the coldness of the half-empty audience gave chills. When starting the powerful band, the first reaction was the one to leave fleeing from a lethal trap for any eardrum with desire to arrive at old without tasting sonotone. Luckyly, Elvis Costello is a professional of first category and knew to take control of the situation like a bullfigther until obtaining that the public surrendered on his feet. Two ears and return to the rotation. Two hours and average of frenetic trip by the history of the best pop rock and of last the twenty years were. That noticed between the hearing, talludita, to which there would be to add a reflection "of sort": Why the 85 percent of the most fanatical followers of Elvis Costello is men? The British artist, wrapped by his band The Imposters, made a review by some of his mythical subjects: Radio Radio, Alison, Olivers Army, Watching the detectives, (I don't want to go) Chelsea, Pump it up, Almost blue... Fell put in riffs guitarreros of melodías as famous as the I pretty of West side story and until it dropped the surfero success, parodia to the Beach Boys The to other side of to summer and impressive compositions like which it gives title to its album of the 98, Painted from memory, in addition to some subjects of the last disc, The delivery man. The already well-known versatility of the musical brilliant patent in his had left first visit to Vigo. It is of supposition that he did not know how he arrived until the ears from which held ignoring the distortion to know how to appreciate the flashes of the wit between the sonorous weeds. Of being thus, it was to cabrear itself. And it did not do it. On the contrary, imperturbable with its suit and its red necktie, with untiring attitude and an impeccable work, they were passing through its hands an impressive collection of electrical and acoustic guitars. With you encore continued demonstrating them generosity and in the end almost thirty songs fell, everything a record for habitual tacañería that are spent stars. Until estrofa dared with one to capella, almost inaudible for which more far from the scene were located, that produced a ceremony silence. Deaf people, but contentments. Concert of Elvis Costello.

Did I read it wrong, or did they play The Other Side Of Summer? If so, I'm really jealous.

(and I loved playing in Vigo myself four years ago, albeit in a larger bar-sized - but full - venue)

Yes! (Also, it's my fondest wish to hear him do my fave song, Unexpected No.4, live.) Other odd choices, not necessarily romantic ones, I wish he would sing are My Mood Swings, God Give Me Strength, You Little Fool, This is Hell, The Name of this Thing is Not Love (which should have been a single, IMO)... I know he does a couple of these but I'd like to hear them.
Till I speak double Dutch to a real double duchess.

The only songs on lillies & honeys lists I haven't seen him do are Please Stay, The Name Of This Thing...and (unfortunately) London's Brilliant Parade. I've been blessed with great setlists every time I've seen him (5 times '99-'05).
