Elvis Costello, 2003 :
"The Police were so bad, so appallingly bad, really bad. It was so funny. It was all the weaknesses of the band amplified by time. Sting just looked like he'd rather be anywhere else. Actually, the unthinkable happened - I felt sorry for him".

Elvis and Sting have become pals for the same reason Bill Clinton and George Bush Sr. have become pals.

Which is ?

I've got nothing against the Police. In fact I quite like some of their songs.
What bothers me is that a musician that Elvis used to make fun of (to put it mildly) for about twenty years has now become his pal.
Can't wait to see pics from the backstage meet-and-greet session.

Let's say you're a well-known English-born rock star who got your start in the late '70s and have remained fairly popular for the last 30 years.

Let's say you want to chat with someone with a similar background, someone who can relate to your experiences.

How many choices do you have?

And luckily, what we think about EC and Sting being friends/pals/compadres/life partners doesn't matter. What matters is what they think about it.

The Police Live in Concert!

Last nights concert was really good. After standing in the crowd to get a t-shirt for what seemed like forever we made our way to our seats to catch a bit of the openning act. Sting's son's band openning for the American leg of the tour. the band is called Fictionplane. I was pretty impressed with the dummer he was good.

When The Police took the stage the stadium was packed. The roar of the crowd actually hurt my ears! Should have brought ear plugs. The band played all the classic songs with some changes including changing the vocal range to something Sting could handle now that he's around 60 years old.

The dummer looked like he was enjoying himself all night. There was a smile on his face, and you could tell he was feeling the adrenaline from being on the stage in front of that crowd.

Sting, and the whole band looked really good for their age. The concert was really good, the stage was really neat, and the songs were performed well. I'm glad we got tickets to the show.

Elvis Costello, and his wife came to watch the show last night. The people sitting in front of us spotted them on the floor.

JM ( John Mayer) Sighting in Vancouver

JM sighting at the kick-off Police reunion tour concert in Vancouver, BC, Canada this evening. Just before the show began, a slew of celebs were escorted into seats amidst the crowd, just a couple of rows behind us (row 7), including Elvis Costello, Bryan Adams, Alan Cummings, Sting's wife, Trudy, and John Mayer. This show was absolutely MIND-BLOWING - i'm sure that John agreed as he was frantically singing, dancing, and generally rocking out, along with the other 30,000 rabid Police fans. An incredible evening in music, for sure!!!

echos myron like a siren
with endurance like the liberty bell
and he tells you of the dreamers
but he's cracked up like the road
and he'd like to lift us up, but we're a very heavy load

Paul Weller would be there as well.
