new Song Polls. contenders required

It's poll time again - there's been months to take Momofuku in and size it up with the rest of the EC catalogue...

This time, instead of polling completely different types of songs vs each other in a straight process of elimination with one ultimate winner, I (challenged as I was to last time (one or two yrs ago?) by Jackson Monkster to come up with some) propose having polls of specific song categories, with the contenders being nominated by you in this thread first. I'm happy to organize different rounds and whatever and welcome any ideas (conceptual, detail...) along the way.

I'm thinking that just a few categories at a time would be best, so as to not overwhelm. Say, 3-6 at a time of the following:


Best short song (say, under 2.30)
Best Long song (5 minutes +)
Best and worst:
-pop song
-rocker
-ballad
-music video
-duet
-cover by Elvis

and if that goes ok, some other categories:

Song with Best:
-vocal performance,
-drums,
-bass,
-guitar
-keyboard,
etc

and more...

Song with best:
-sound effects,
-band performance,
-rhythm
-melody
-strings,
-horns... etc

Best Short Song - probably only a half dozen songs on Get Happy or Trust would qualify, may be wrong, but I don't have the stop-watch measurements of all of them at my fingertips to compare. 5 gears in Reverse? Fish n Chip Papers? Love for Tender? Opportunity? Motel Matches?

Best Long Song + 5 minutes? can't be many of these. ill Sogno probably has the most of these but I've only listend to it 3 times before donating it to my frisbee golf caddy. So I suppose I Want You is the only one that qualifies.

Worst Video - Good Year For The Roses. Those girls looked terrified.

C'mon. Thats part've what made the video so captivating, in a "The Shining" like way with eerily simlar twins wandering the hotel hallways. And it goes with the song, 2 girls distressed about their parents failing marriage (perhaps), eyes nervously darting around and swaying uncomfortably in time to the music, Elvis as Jack Nicholson, ever so cool but deranged to be singing in such a melancholy way about the way it all fell apart. Its a completely brilliant juxtapose of formality WITH chaos, and the song ain't bad as Elvis and Attractions perform it ither.

I would like to defend the video for the Other Side of Summer.

I thought it was a terrific spin on Randy Newman's "I Love L.A." video, with some serious overtones.
(When Elvis sings "the unwanted birthday", the video shows an abandoned baby in the street.)

Besides, I loved the beard and bug glasses.
